Sherlock and the Lanvin Vintage Winter Coat
The Ethical Hedonist has been dreaming of the perfect slow, sustainable luxury winter coat. A coat of great refinement, beauty and tailoring, with a dash of masculine daring! The sort of coat Sherlock Holmes wears with such brilliance, part matador, part Houdini! Then we discovered a rare and precious incarnation! A Lanvin vintage couture, military coat from the seventies, hidden in a trunk in the attic of a once gracious Georgian pile, beside the English seaside. Perhaps it belonged to an IT girl, with saucer eyes like Twiggy and hair the colour of golden corn, who shopped at Granny Take a Trip on the King’s Road and took the hippie trail to Marakesh….. What stories this coat could tell.
Then to Mottistone we went, on the magical Isle of Wight to pay homage to the perfect nuptials of Benedict Cumberbatch and his raven bride, to Mottistone Manor and the pretty church of St Peter and Paul.
Just imagine Benedict reading love poetry on top of Tennyson Down. In another glittering age, Alfred Lord Tennyson did that. Not to mention Shelley and Dickens. Now Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp are ushering in a new golden age on this magical isle, stepped in literary lore and the glitterati.
