Karis Thomas The Amy Winehouse of the Valleys
Karis Thomas, don’t you dare give up on your dreams, wide-eyed girl-mother from the Valleys. It is remarkable that you are only sixteen. You made it to the Semi-Finals of TheVoice UK. That is a remarkable achievement. You looked so elegant and grown up in your sheer violet gown and tattoos like lace to night.
Your voice is the voice of passion and authentic experience. A voice like smoke laced with heartbreak. You are already a shooting star, you just don’t know how extraordinary you are. When you sing, it is as if you have already lived a thousand lives and cried a million tears. You are the Welsh Amy Winehouse. To steal a line from the renaisance, Willy Wonker Prince himself, Will i Am, ‘you are the real deal! Bam! Bam! Bam!’
Your awesome coach, Rita Ora, looked absolutely crushed when you and wonderful Joe didn’t make it through to the final of The Voice UK. Sometimes, it isn’t winning the matters. You have come so far since you stood on The Voice stage, and sang Right to Be Wrong. Rita is right when she said, ‘When someone has that thing you can’t learn it, you can’t pay for it and you have it.’ The lyrics of your heroine, Joss Stone, seem to echo your longing, your hunger, your story – ‘I’m stepping out into the great unknown
I’m feeling wings though I’ve never flown’. Karis, we will buy your albums and go to your concerts. Believe in yourself, it is time to fly girl!
