Aries

Aries

March 21-April 20

It’s all happening at home, isn’t it? Perhaps it’s not started yet – ‘it’ being a family development, a sudden decision to paint the banister purple, or perhaps the prodigal return of your Scientologist aunt. Whatever. The solar eclipse this month underlines some domestic turbulence as a struggle commences over who will bend to whose will – and this is not just for July…the matter may not be resolved before the end of 2018. Since Aries thrives on conflict and rivalry, you’ll be in your element; but don’t underestimate the forces of love ranged against you. Compromise may very well be the answer. Eventually. By the time of the lunar eclipse towards the end of July, in addition to home politics, you’ll have outside matters to attend to – such as a new business initiative, a campaign or other team-based activity. Ruler Mars adds muscle to this life area so that if you have any influence on a group, count on getting your own way. At last.

Taurus

Taurus

April 21-May 21

You bossy old bull! (Sounds better than ‘old cow’.) With Mars and Pluto up at the top of your solar chart, the world around you is getting used to being tossed about on your horns, so I won’t say what that makes you. In general, you’re highly opinionated in July, never failing to grace events with your perspective – and with the solar eclipse on the 13th, this sets a pattern for the next half year or so, where you exercise your right to free speech, then someone else exercises their right to free speech against you, followed by a ding-dong, fisticuffs and hopefully not a visit to A & E. Yes, there is a learning curve gift-wrapped by the cosmos. If you can be a little more self-aware and anticipate any hurt feelings or sensitivities over the matters you wish to opine on, then very productive conversations may follow. There is much to learn in July, it’s a month for restoring IQ to the brainbox and getting properly informed. But only if you can shut up occasionally.

Gemini

Gemini

May 22-June 21

Finances are the big topic for July – yes, a challenge or two lies ahead, but let’s first look at the astrology. A solar eclipse is due on the 13th which in essence is a super new moon (remaining potent for up to half a year), a new life episode if you like. The Sun and Moon merge briefly in your house of income and assets but are opposed by powerful Pluto, which sounds ominous but need not be. Pluto sets a test – and this could be through giving you more or less money, through a change in a financial arrangement or some other development with pecuniary consequences. Ideally, tackle any problem related to work or money before it deals with you. But if you’re caught unawares, embrace the change, don’t resist it, because Pluto seeks to bring to an end any set-up that’s dysfunctional. The skies are trying to put your finances on a healthier foundation, if applicable. At best you could end up wealthier – but ready yourself for some re-orientation first. Versatile Gemini can’t be beaten.

Cancer

Cancer

June 22-July 22

Who’s got their spell on you? You’re in thrall to someone – a new lover, bearded guru, plumber. Estate agent? – maybe not. The powerful solar eclipse in your sign is a sure sign that a key relationship is starting up around now, or an established relationship is about to undergo a transformation – for good or bad. What kind of relationship? Could be sexual, could be platonic – but it could just simply be functional, like hiring a gardener. This won’t be any old gardener, however. Someone in the outside world possesses latent power over you, the power to change you. So, if it is a gardener, perhaps he/she will persuade you to turn the backyard into a Capability Brown extravaganza by tapping your imagination. Power can be abused, you know that. Be watchful that in allowing another to play their part in changing your perception, you retain some independence. Or else you’ll be chanting mindlessly rather than being enchanted.

Leo

Leo

July 23-August 23

We are at odds with the world, aren’t we poppet. Who aren’t you having a row with as I write this? Not that arguments in themselves are a bad thing: nothing like a screamer to get things out into the air. But if you’re at odds with everyone, may be you need to take a closer look at yourself. Perhaps the lion has a toothache. The solar eclipse, on 13 July, is a useful starting point to examine more sharply your relationship with certain people in your life. It could very well be that you have allowed others in recent times to walk all over you (unlikely), or there’s something about them that arouses your passions or fury. With Pluto opposed to the eclipse, you won’t be in the mood to meet people half way. Yet this may very well be what must be done if you’re to avoid a permanent rift. Perhaps you want that, a rift in stone. It’s up to you. The lunar eclipse on the 27th is emboldened by Mars, so one bond at least is reaching breaking point or maximum passion point. Phew, Vesuvius is stirring.

Virgo

Leo

August 24-September 22

The state of the world looms large in your mind under July’s solar eclipse, so a great many of you will be taking a greater interest in a political or humanitarian activity. Alternatively, business-related decisions will have to be addressed now and in the months to come. The thing to watch is a fixation. Usually, you’re even-minded enough to avoid emotional engagement, but with Pluto at odds with the eclipse, there is a risk that you get a bee in your bonnet or you just allow one aspect of a situation to preoccupy you, with the result that perception begins to resemble a beer-drinker’s belly, a lob-sided bulge. Because the eclipse is in the solar 11th house, you will think and act better if you act dispassionately and channel powerful emotion into action. In any case, your ruler Mercury goes retrograde later this month, triggering reflection on soulful and psychological themes – helping that self-awareness of yours as you recall past mistakes which are now living lessons. Think what happened last time you got obsessed. Yes, that time. So, think on, Virgin.

Libra

September 23-October 23

A key career month when there’s all to play for if you keep your head. The cosmic event I’m looking at is the solar eclipse in Cancer which in your chart is the launch pad of your public status and professional life. Solar eclipses are not always that great, but this one is high octane and a bit dangerous (in the sense that it can trigger a bout of foolish risk-taking). It has power to take you very far through discipline and focus. Eclipses of this sort indicate a new initiative, a launch (perhaps of a business) – certainly a new career episode – though you may have to wait up to six months hence to see an outcome. Home demands may attempt to sway you, you could face opposition (not for the first time), yet how does a seagull manage to glide against a prevailing wind? By using its wings to ‘fall’ against the current and maintain momentum – you can do something trickily similar in your world and confound expectation. By the 27th you’re in a position to bring a project to the boil under a Sun, Moon and Mars alignment.

Scorpio

October 23-November 22

It’s easy for astrologers just to write, “pack your suitcase and fly off!” What about the real life of work, family responsibilities, famished kitties? Life’s not easy. Even so, the solar eclipse this month does herald a time of greater hankering to expand your mind and life, be this through travel, study, suing someone or just adopting a philosophy that’s capable of altering perception. With your co-ruler Pluto linked to this eclipse, and your other co-ruler (Mars) in retrograde in the chart house of family and home, you’re bound to have divided feelings as you contemplate a way forward that breaks with the past. This may not be the month to actually announce a launch, but somewhere between now and January 2019, it is likely you will take a step forward that alarms loved ones but feeds your need to grow. Proceed gently and with sensitivity. No need to shout.

Sagittarius

Sagitarius

November 23-December 21

The mind turns to the inner world of a special relationship – how’s it doing? Motoring along through the countryside of routine, picnic hamper in the boot? Lit by flashlight under storm clouds? It’s possible to think too much about a relationship, to over-scrutinise it and lose perspective in the process – and this is a distinct risk under the July solar eclipse opposed by obsessive Pluto. Actually, what’s really going on, is that you’re responding to subtle changes taking place within yourself, and the knock-on effect is that this takes in many other life areas, such as a partnership (intimate or business), shared finances and even unsought gifts. Basically, everything is on the Sag slab awaiting either autopsy or X-ray. Watch the next six months to see who survives this process and who falls by the wayside. Later in July, there’s a chance to look at family issues afresh and apply a better understanding of others. You’ll feel better on a rebuilt bridge.

Capricorn

Capricorn

December 22-January 20

It’s slowly dawning on you that you need another’s support. If it’s business we’re talking about, it could be that a partner is sought (sleeping or otherwise). No matter your life condition, the desire to share an experience (or risk) grows to intensity, especially because of the solar eclipse this month which highlights other people in one’s life. Ruler Saturn in your house adds to the feeling of being ‘alone’, though what the planet is doing is solidifying your sense of identity and authority by helping to strengthen your resolve and practicality. Nonetheless, we all need someone. It’s no shame to admit this – it’s called ‘nature’! Now or over the next few months, life will bring more people into your life, especially because of lucky Jupiter in your house of friendships and business. Make the most of your group memberships and political or philosophical affiliations. Somewhere in these areas lurks The One.

Aquarius

Aquarius

January 21-February 19

Let’s address the grumps. Yes, you’re being grumpy! Stop it. Not that you can help it. Quarrelsome Mars is kicking off in Aquarius, digger Pluto’s dredging up the past (oh the shame of it!) and matron Saturn’s plotting with Pluto trying to instil more personal discipline. There’s only one thing for it – go on a diet. Or rather, take a closer look at all areas of your wellbeing. The July solar eclipse offers an opportunity to get a grip on body and soul and turn what you see wobbling in the mirror into a temple. Think of the fun this can provide. Visits to spas, massages, aromatherapy oils, hot white towels, reflexology, herb infusions. And that’s all before the social possibilities gyms and food fairs afford. The best bit of this month is the lunar eclipse in Aquarius on 27 July – aided by pushy Mars, just about any project or idea with a pulse can be got off the ground under your stewardship. Eclipses have a six-month duration in effect – so there’s much to play for.

Pisces

Pisces

February 20-March 20

Something of a ‘party’ month is July for Pisceans. July’s awesome solar eclipse highlights all the things that bring personal joy; so, if it’s trains that do it for you, life will be one big Clapham Junction. What a feast! But will you be sensible enough to confer with others on whether they’re enjoying the party, too? Opposite this eclipse is Pluto which (if you’re not careful) can build up the ego and harden your resolve to do everything your own way – so of course there are arguments. Because you’re reading the Ethical Hedonist, chances are you’re not prone to ego trips but understand the need to involve everyone in your circle for harmony. The funfest is also indicated by a lovely co-rulers Jupiter and Neptune link- up which points to overseas or new experiences/challenges: in the time ahead, adventure and new companions will do much to spice your life while the late July lunar eclipse encourages you to find your own space for fruitful contemplation.
