AJ Vintage Archive Sale – A Life in Style Less Ordinary
I remember the exact moment I fell in love with my first vintage dream of a dress. I was a fashion-mad undergraduate, wandering around Chester, when I saw the dress. The one, beckoning to me, declaring ‘buy me’ in the shop window of an elegant, twinkling antique emporium.
It was an original, nineteen twenties silk satin flapper dress, cut on the bias, flowing and fluttering over the body like molten silk in a way that is utterly pointless to resist. A Downton Abbey, revamped Lady Edith sort of dress. The man who sold it to me was very, very charming indeed. He was a retired military man. He told me that the dress had once belonged to a very glamorous young lady, and that the shade was very special – he called it eau de nil. Not quite pistachio and not quite mint green. In fact something far more rarified and impossibly chic. I was smitten. My 19 year old fashion heart missed a beat. The name conjured up such marvelous possibilities in my overactive writer’s imagination. Reader I still have that dress!
Now many years and dresses later, I am selling part of my lovely fashion archive. After twenty years of collecting, and wearing some wonderful pieces to interview icons such as Keira Knightley, Karl Largerfeld, Sienna Miller, and the girls from SATC etc, I cannot possibly wear all the dresses I have amassed. Plus it is a very good way to raise money for Ethical Hedonist, until we are self supporting from advertising, our beautiful new kitemark and our inspiring new events.
So, I invite you to visit the EH Atelier and buy a piece of Valentino, La Perla, Seafon’s, Dior and many more fashion treasures and be part of this great new adventure in emerald princess publishing – your in style eternal – Alison Jane – The Ethical Hedonist, Journalist extraordinaire.
