EH August Horoscope By Alex Trenoweth
July ended with a spectacular blue Moon in Aquarius—which seemed like a fitting end to an astronomically beautiful month. August sees its fair share of astrological action, starting with Venus’ retrograde motion back into Leo. Ancient wisdom warns us not to rush into passionate love affairs during this time. And this goes for “falling in love” with luxury items as well. Mars, the planet of action and initiative, moves into Leo on the 9 th August so expect some roaring from our otherwise purring friends. The New Moon on 14 August also falls in Leo: is it time for a haircut or a change of image? Finally, we see the month of August out with another spectacular Full Moon, this one in Pisces.
Ever get that feeling that others are pushing you around? No? Well maybe it’s time to stop fighting for a few minutes and just take in what’s going on around you. Tension among friends is building and if you are not a bit more sensitive to your surroundings, the situation could very easily become a total chaotic mess. At the very least, there is the potential that you could lose whatever support network you have been carefully building up. The key to avoiding disaster is through talking rather than assuming—it’s not idle gossip if you’re simply playing an open hand to gain the trust of others. Of all the signs, the Venus retrograde period seems to affect your love life the most: if you see something attractive (or are tempted to return to something attractive), walk away. Keep walking. Whistle a bit to keep yourself distracted but just keep walking.
Comfort and security are major issues for you this month and chances are you are will to do anything you can to protect what is yours (or what you consider to be yours). It may alleviate some tension if you can focus on why you feel so threatened. By nature, you are of the “Slow and steady wins the race” variety and can be simply unstoppable and even un-shiftable once you decide to rise to the challenge. The problem seems to be that you are simply too focused on the past to have a good insight into where you are at the moment. Memories of good times are evoked this month and in hindsight, it all looks too tempting. Among the temptations is the niggling feeling that you could have been so much more “if only. . .” Let bygones be bygones. You’ve come a long way since the good old days.
If you get that feeling of having said it all before, you are very close indeed to the key of what this month is all about: yes, that’s right, revising, re-writing and re-reading. You may hate the thought of not being able to cover new ground and as difficult as it may be, you must overcome the temptation to move on to pastures new. On top of brushing up your editing skills, chances are you will be meeting old acquaintance with messages worth listening to. Sit up and pay attention to the subtle nuances of old stories told anew. Fresh details are revealed to careful listeners, long forgotten mysteries are solved and new intrigues developed. Even more importantly is the opportunity to gain a better understanding into the deep mechanisms of old conflicts in past relationships. So don’t be so quick to brush off blasts from the past.
Conflicts over finances are likely unless you can get to grips with what is troubling you. By nature, emotions run very deep with you. It’s hard to look at things merely at face value when you know damn well there is more to the picture than meets the eye. To alleviate tensions, you need to tap into that very deep well of emotions of yours and do some serious examination. People do and say things for a wide variety of reasons. Some are far more impulsive than others and some are downright scheming and still others do things for the most genuine reason: to protect someone else. If this seems familiar then it should do: it’s basically the story of your life. This month you will again be playing the knight in shining armour to yet another damsel in distress. Do you really need to do this? Or can the damselfight her own battles for once? Choose your battles carefully and let bygones be bygones.
“Oh no, not again,” the other signs of the zodiac exclaim as you take centre stage. Again. But with all things burning bright, there also yearns a need for the shade. Some might call this sunstroke, others just might remind you it’s time to let the understudy have a turn. Whatever it’s called, it may do you some good to retire to the wings to re-learn your lines. In saying the same things over and over, it is so easy to lose touch with the true meaning of the words that are coming from your lips. Misunderstandings arise and frustrations develop meaning money—as well as a few fans—could be lost. Think carefully before you speak or maybe even say things more than once to ensure you are not misinterpreted. There seems to be a lot at stake and a bit more devotion to getting it right is a very wise investment indeed.
“But what about me?” is a phrase you seldom say but this month it won’t do you any harm to ask a few questions about what you are entitled to. This is particularly important during the first couple of weeks of August when it may well appear to you that everything is in complete chaos and the people around you are running around like those proverbial headless chickens. After Jupiter moves into your own sign on the 11th August, you can far better begin to assert your authority. And no one is going to know what on earth has hit them. There is nothing quite like watching Virgos put things into a sensible order! You are resolutely unafraid of change and have absolutely no qualms with getting rid of junk. There are going to be some very unhappy, overworked bin men in the latter half of the month. Enjoy your year long reign in putting the rest of us mucky pups in order.
Venus’ slide into retrograde motion may mean you will be tempted to revisit old friendships to see if anything can be salvaged of them. Whilst there is absolutely no harm in reconnecting with old acquaintances, there is a problem if it becomes an obsession or even an addiction. People come and go in our lives for a variety of circumstances: through relocating to different places or changing jobs or even having families. Sometimes people simply need or desire something you cannot offer. So stop trying to entice them back in your life. You have far more important things going on. Like getting new people in your life. That’s right. Putting yourself in a place you never would have thought you’d ever be is a very good way of discovering who you really are, what you like and who you find attractive. Mix it up a bit, embrace the new and don’t be afraid to experiment.
Where have you been? It sounds like a casual question but to someone who so values their privacy, this simple enquiry can feel very threatening. By nature you prefer to operate under the cover of darkness, but this month there is no place to hide. Every time you try to retreat, you are followed. You go somewhere you think no one could possibly think to find you and you’re discovered. So you do what you do best when you feel you need to defend yourself: you end up killing someone. OK, that last bit was an exaggeration but the sentiment is there: you really need to stop killing, I mean hurting someone, when all you really need to do is explain you’d like a little peace and quiet. Feeling exposed is going to be very uncomfortable for you but it’s just a temporary measure. The spotlight will move onto someone else but int he meantime, either put up with it or stay in bed all day. Your call.
As Jupiter, your ruling planet moves into your solar 10th house, you should be taking advantage of ANY opportunity to improve your public image. If you’ve been carrying a little extra weight, it’s time to lose it. If you have been wondering whether a change in style could be what it takes to attract the right kind of attention then go for it. Do whatever feels right—trust your intuition—but try to do it (or at least get it started) before mid-September. Until then, you have a golden time to wrap up old projects, check the progress of new initiatives and search for the necessary opportunities to get ahead in life. For some centaurs, this month may mean re-evaluating their careers or even stepping down from oppressive responsibilities.Whilst there is nothing wrong with taking a step back per se, getting back on the right track may be a lot more work than it seems at this moment. If this is true for you, then “delegation”may have just become your new best friend.
If there’s one thing you can’t stand, it’s all this “touchy-feely” stuff that’s been going on around you. You’re sick of the tears and tantrums, the unreasonable demands and emotional blackmail but most of all, you’re tired of all this deep and meaningless search for psychological answers. Who needs it? Well, um, you do. The universe has a subtle way of ensuring we eat our vegetables and getting you to dabble in the very intimate depths of human emotion is just one way of stopping you from working so hard. If a more tranquil life doesn’t appeal to you, here is some very bad news indeed: through force of circumstance, you will have to put your ambitions to one side as mid September approaches. Until then, use this time to wind up the projects you have started and prepare for some down time. You may insist you didn’t need it but the Universe says otherwise.
This month is a time to take a good and honest look at the reputation you have cultivated for yourself these past few years. Are you really putting out the right message? People come to you to hear about your wonderfully inventive ideas and plans but how many of these plans actually reach the stage of fruition? The problem is your manner of communication. If you sound like you don’t care, no one else will. Perhaps the answer lies in getting someone else to vocalise your grand plans for the future. Over the coming weeks, try to keep track of the people who are re-entering your life: new people seem to hold the key in helping you to re-focus yourself and to implement new initiatives. By mid-September, you will be able to make a better judgement about who in your life is capable of taking control of all the “little” things you have been setting to one side.
So your plate is rather full, is it? Well my dear Piscean friend, you haven’t seen anything yet! This month you are going to feel the urge to do some serious deep cleaning. And although this may refer to the kind of tidying up that has you scurrying for the rubber gloves, there is also a far more meaningful tidy up that has its roots in examining your deeper emotions. Getting rid of negative emotions or finding productive ways of expressing them should be very high on your to-do list. There is also the need to examine current relationships to see if some pruning could take place in this realm of your life as well. However, you being you, there is a far better chance that you will spend precious time “rehabilitating” someone from your past rather than deciding they are simply not good enough for you.
