Dreaming of Summer Lounging in Delcor’s Metro Chair covered in a Christian Lacroix Print

In the window displays at Delcor, on the King’s Road, sits a fifties-inspired Metro chair dressed in a sub tropical print designed by Christian Lacroix.

We celebrate the marriage between vintage utility design and a Lacroix masterpiece print in this Made in Britain, artisanal design classic.

I’ve always thought that there is a huge dash of Alice in Wonderland about the rainforest… it’s like tumbling down the rabbit hole into a kaleidoscopic world of  extraordinary creatures, (anyone seen a red fluorescent tree frog?) ridiculous colour palettes and curious plants that shouldn’t exist, but they do, providing marvellous inspiration to the couturier and artisan furniture maker alike. If you have never paused to look in wonder at the alluring window displays at Delcor, on the King’s Road, you simply must! This is a Made in Britain furniture house par excellence that knows how to captivate, how to amuse and how to create the perfect creature comfort habitat that a girl or her consort might never want to leave…

Christian Lacroix Masterpiece Print

Here they take their boxy, fifties-inspired Metro chair and adorn it in a luscious, sub tropical, Christian Lacroix masterpiece of a print. The Metro is all about attention to detail, comfort and longevity. Imagine a chair where every spring is constructed to move independently, pleasantly engulfing and supporting the sitter. To that you can add the most capacious cushions. Who wouldn’t feel like Alice or the charistmatic caterpiller, yearning to curl up in this never, never land of intoxicating, everlasting summer, and get lost reading an unputdownable book or drink very good Indian tea? Not me.

The Metro chair is Delcor’s love letter to fifties utility design, married with a 21st century love of artisan, Made in Britain craftsmanship. What a personality this design classic has! Last year the chair was launched with a witty window display inspired by the London Underground, with the Metro Sofa and Chair creating their own inimitable ‘Delcor Line’ against a background of underground fabrics in brightest, paintbox greens and yellows.

This year it’s all change. Now the Metro is adorned in Christian Lacroix’s ‘Caribe’ to capture the spirit of summer.

The chair proudly sits in the window at Delcor, dressed with plants and butterflies to echo the Natural History Museum’s fantastical butterfly exhibition and the Damian Hirst retrospective at The Tate Modern in 2014.

Despite its modern feel, the Metro Chair is still proudly manufactured in the traditional manner in Delcor’s Northumberland workshop, by  skilled local artisans. Many of these skilled craftsman have been with the company for the last thirty years. They work with the finest materials and timbers from sustainable forests and each frame is guaranteed for 50 years.
