Upcycled Candelabra, Candles and the Romance of the Road
The Ethical Hedonist can never resist a dash of wit and upcycled reinvention!
Who wouldn’t want to give house room to a repurposed, sustainably luxe candelabra that turns functional, Cinderella, flotsam and jetsam from an industrial age into a covetable piece of interior art that will always be a talking point?
Candles for Girls Who Just Want to Be Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry
Along with candelabra, we didn’t know we needed, the Scandi-Brit husband and wife alliance behind Corpo Sancto in Brighton, also create lampshades from the serene to the whimsical – yes, the Frido Kahlo shade is our lust item de jour. Then, did we mention ethical candles? Forget sweet and saccarine – these babies are rather sexy , rock ‘n’ roll candles using golden rapeseed oil, wooden wicks and design motifs that will appeal to Merlinians and Twilight fans. The wax is biodegradable , non GM and sourced form the EU. We suspect the candles will appeal to girls who secretly yearn to be rock goddesses like Chrissie Hynde or Debbie Harry. Of course, they are great for boys too! They look just that little bit different to all the rather sweet, feminine ethically sourced candles we’ve come across so far.
Right now, we are rather smitten with the idea of the Bikers Jacket candle, with top notes of a ‘ manly worn jacket, mixed with motor oil and a thousand miles of hard road’ – we’ll take it. Other covetable candle aromas include: The Hippie, Coffee and Bread and Oriental Fire. We told you Corpo Sancto are sustainably, daringly, Made in Britain and different.
More About Corpo Sancto:
Founded in 2014 by Anglo-Scandinavian husband and wife collaboration Chris & Annelie Turner, Corpo Sancto is a newly formed Brighton based company that produces a range of natural candles, reclaimed industrial candelabras & lamps. Corpo Sancto uses rapeseed wax for all of its candles (both pillar and container), the only UK manufacturer to do this exclusively at the moment. The rapeseed wax they use is biodegradable, carbon neutral and produced from non-GM crops grown within the European Union, something which can’t be said for other natural waxes such as those made from soya, castor or palm oils. All their candles are hand mixed and poured in small batches using the best ingredients to assure the highest quality; the scented candles are then left for at least a week to cure to ensure a good scent throw. Corpo Sancto currently produce two sizes of scented candle; small, which burn for approx. 15 hours and are more suited to smaller rooms/bathrooms etc. and large, which burn for approx. 45 hours and give a stronger scent. The current scent range consists of nine different scents, some familiar and some unique to Corpo Sancto; these are: Frankincense & Myrrh, Green Tea & Lemongrass, Bergamot, Oriental Fire, Coffee & Bread, The Hippie, Log Fire, Sweet Fig and the Biker Jacket.
