The quest to eat local, organic, sustainable and seasonal food can be tricky, but it’s always rewarding. Supporting local food businesses and producers is invaluable, both to the wider community and economy and to individual sustainable lifestyles. Luckily, for anyone based in Yorkshire, The Talbot Hotel is aiming to make the search for great sustainable, seasonal food a lot easier and more enjoyable. On Thursday 1st August they’re holding a ‘Celebrate Yorkshire Day’, filled with food and drink tastings all centred around what’s local and sustainable. Based in Malton, the proclaimed ‘Yorkshire’s Food Capital’ and host of the Food Lover’s Festival, The 4-star Talbot Hotel seems perfectly situated for a summer celebration of local food and drink. With a beautiful, historic 17th Century building, this is a place to celebrate the very best in quality food and drink. Their event looks to be an amazing chance to sample amazing local produce, from chocolates to smoked meats, and sustainable live lobsters. Food and drink stalls are open from 12pm-4pm, but there also the chance to experience the new £4 million refurbishment, completed in May 2012 in partnership with renowned chef James Martin. Try lunchtime specials such as Whitby Brown Crab Risotto with superstar local ingredients. The standout event looks to be an exciting ‘Flight of Yorkshire’ drinks special, created by James Martin to accompany the dinner menu, allowing diners to experience a ‘journey’ through the tastes of Yorkshire. This looks to be a unique chance to experience the best in local, sustainable Yorkshire produce, in beautiful, luxury surroundings.
