Wow! One of my favourite institutions in the whole world, The London Underground is 150 years old this year! It is hard to believe that when it first opened, it was greeted with a mixture of delight, suspicion and dismay – how could a train run underground? Well, it jolly well can, and the the best way to celebrate and beat the mean, January blues is to put on a darling dress and take oneself off to one of London’s most alluring and exquisite hotel’s, The Cadogan, once the home of Lily Langtry, the great It Girl of the Edwardian age, and a consort to a King – Edward v11. The Cadogan was also a favourite hangout of Oscar Wilde, a man with a genius for appreciating beauty, fashion and the passing of time. So make haste! It’s the cocktail hour and time to put a little va, va voom into January, and start praying for a tropical heatwave… in the meantime, a Piccadilly line Cocktail will be just swell…
Steam into the Cadogan with a Zippy Piccadilly Line Cocktail
‘Piccadilly Line’ Recipe:
10ml Lemon Juice
20ml Elderflower Cordial
40ml Apple Juice
10ml Blue Curaco
N.B. If you are going to make the cocktail at home, use organic lemons and some lovely organic champagne. Fleurie from Waitrose is very good.
The ‘Piccadilly Line’ cocktail is available until 31 December 2013, priced at £13.50.
The Cadogan, owned by the Cadogan Estate, is one of London’s prestigious Knightsbridge hotels. The hotel’s 64 guestrooms and suites, restaurant plus the private rooms are the last word in elegance and home from home comfort. Built in 1887 by William Willett, all areas of this beautiful townhouse have been sympathetically decorated to create a peerless standard of luxury.
