Elisabetta Landoni – Journalism Graduate, City University London

Interned with Ethical Hedonist July – December 2015

elisabettaI’ve interned with the Ethical Hedonist magazine for six months after graduating in journalism from City University London. Working closely with Alison Jane in her office allowed me to fully experience the process of starting up an online magazine in the digital age.

As we were a small team, I had the chance to work on a number of very diverse tasks – from feature writing to social media managing, to picture editing. The one-on-one experience was invaluable, and Alison Jane took time to guide me through the assignments who were most unfamiliar to me.

This not only helped me improve my writing (and managing!) skills, but also helped me understand the career path I want to take as a recent journalism graduate. Alison Jane also helped me figure out what my strengths and weaknesses are, and what I need to work on to become a better journalist.

Interning with the Ethical Hedonist magazine has been an all-round experience – and I soon learned that I had to fully embrace the Ethical Hedonist lifestyle to do it the best I could. Alison Jane taught me how to be an organic girl and I must admit it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be! We probably spent as much time in the kitchen as in the office, creating the most delicious, healthy meals and discussing the power of superfoods and herbs.

And it wasn’t just all office work! Alison Jane assigned me interviews in London and we went together to press events in some of the most beautiful (and ethical!) places in England. A truly Ethical Hedonist experience.

Interned with Ethical Hedonist in the summer of 2014

I absolutely loved my two-week internship at the Ethical Hedonist Magazine! From fashion shows to art exhibitions to beekeeping, every day was full of invaluable moments that I shall not forget. It was a pleasure to be guided by such a pioneering and influential writer as Alison Jane Reid, who for me has become a true mentor.

Imogen Ramadan, English Literature Undergraduate at Manchester University

Interned with Ethical Hedonist in the summer of 2014

imogenHaving completed an action-packed, fun-filled two weeks interning with Alison Jane Reid at the Ethical-Hedonist, I can confidently say I have learnt an immense amount of new skills, vocabulary and approaches to creative writing.

The level of one-on-one communication was an experience I am unlikely to find with any other journalist group, and has been incredibly invaluable. Not only have I had the privilege of getting to know Alison Jane and her talents as a journalist, I have also had in-depth advice and guidance on my own personal work, which I feel has improved dramatically, along with my confidence.

I would recommend anyone thinking of interning to contact AJ to work with the Ethical-Hedonist. It is a fascinating magazine with an honest and passionate core, run by an extremely talented and committed star journalist. It is something very special that will no doubt grow and become a leading advocate for sustainable and ethical living. It has been amazing to be a part of its growth and development, and I wish Alison Jane all the luck for the future.
