It isn’t an easy assignment, being an intrepid, wildlife reporter in Borneo. Filing stories from one of the world’s hot spots for endangered species, animal poaching and the illegal pet trade.

Gibbons and the Illegal Pet Trade

In the latest report, Bertie Gekoski gets too close for comfort with some of the animals rescued by the WLU.  But first has to rise early, and then get all hot and bothered during boot camp training, as he is made to run all the way to the animal pens in the extreme heat and humidity of a Borneo summer. Then, before he can catch his breath, it is time to really get to know the assorted, animal house guests at the WLU and muck out their enclosures. Surprisingly, not all of them are delighted to see our favourite animal hero presenter, especially the rather bad tempered leopard cat!  However, it is love at first sight when he meets Leilo, the gibbon, rescued from the illegal pet trade and now utterly dependant on her human friends for her survival. Sadly, Bertie reveals that Leilo is now too tame and trusting to ever be released back into the wild. Watch the story now.
