Earth Conscious, Eco-Friendly Flip Flops, Just in Time for Summer!
Earth’s favourite, eco-friendly, fair, flip-flop!
Oli is a line of fair-trade flip flops, made from natural rubber which is biodegradable, sustainable and renewable.
Co-founder Heather tells the story of how she came up with the idea of Oli, “A couple of years ago, I forgot my flip flops on a beach trip. I went to buy a pair but was disappointed by what I found, because everything was made from cheap and not very environmentally-friendly materials such as plastic, PVC, or EVA foam.” Olli’s Kickstarter Campaign is creating quite a a splash on Kickstarter, check it out here.
Heather talks with passion and commitment about the challenges in locating a plant which treated employees well, “Workers living in the most despicable conditions, getting paid outrageously meager wages, and treated like the lowest of low. This reality is far worse than the harshness of bad chemicals or uncomfortable overpriced flip-flops. I wanted no part in this”.
Heather, a member of the Better Shoes Foundation was able to access rubber attributed from audited, sustainable plantations, which provides fair wages and good working conditions. After years of searching, she sourced a plantation in southeast Asia and purchased the raw materials needed to create her very first line of eco-friendly flip flops. See her crowdfunding campaign for how you can donate and help her go into production of elegant, earth-conscious flip flops.
Soon, flip flops which are comfortable, stylish and leave you with a ethically stylish, clear conscience will be all the rage. Back the campaign for Fair Flip Flops Here
In a world where fashion trends seemingly change by the hour, waste is the ugly side of fast, season-led, cheap fashion. A not so fun fact: In just one year, the clothes we discard in the UK alone could fill Wembley stadium, the equivalent of 1.5 million tonnes of landfill. The impact this has on the environment is completely unsustainable. SUSS UK want to change this. Committed to educating the everyday shopper about some of the issues which plague the fashion industry, they are also providing access to covetable, slow and ethical fashion brands that are earth-conscious and green and sexy!
Sustainable Fashion For London
You can help support them, by visiting one of their pop-up stores. But with just 30 days left of their Kickstarter campaign, you’ll need to be quick! They need to raise £10,000 which will allow them to open up a whole store of sustainable style to the people of London. Their concept store will be situated in East London and include a host of covetable eco-friendly fashion, beauty and homeware brands. Not only this, but it will also run workshops and talks with people from the industry allowing customers to partake in everything from knitting to organic wine tastings.
Workshops and Organic Wine Tastings
One event to keep an eye out for is a three week extravaganza to kick off their launch party in September! Anyone that has helped reach their goal will be rewarded with a range of goodies, from free access to talks and workshops through to goodie bags full of sustainable delights.
Get behind the project! We need to awaken fashions conscience and move towards a future of slow, eco-fashion and homeware brands. Not only this, but it will also run workshops and talks with people from the industry allowing customers to partake in everything from knitting to organic wine tastings.
