  1. Andrew Cunningham says:

polar bears live in the arctic circle.

its important to protect polar bears and the arctic circle because the condition of the arctic circle will have a direct impact on the rest of the world, in terms of rising sea levels, and invaluable research/scientific data from that region to understand the changing condition of the planet as well as the area itself which includes the amazing polar bear. These beautiful creatures not only need to be protected along with their habitat but they need to be understood more, monitored more and made more aware of around the world about how important they are, how fragile they are in terms of their numbers and how they live their lives along side this amazing part of our world.

  2. EMMA furniss says:

Polar bears are from the Arctic region. Important to protect this region from climate change as this is causing ice to melt and sea level to rise which could cause problems with all coastal regions. Important to protect polar bears as other animals rely on them for food.

  3. Michaela Fuller says:

My five year old daughter has recently been learning about polar bears and she helped me with this first bit of the answer – Polar Bears live in really cold countries like Canada and Russia (Arctic). It is important to save the Arctic because whatever happens to the Arctic affects the rest of the planet, with regards to climate change ect. To stop the polar bears from going extinct. Sea levels could rise, weather temperstures would change, and we would lose so many vital species!

  4. Lindsey says:

Polar Bears live in the Arctic regions. It’s important to protect the Arctic as the Arctic is so vital for regulating global temperatures by reflecting the sun’s heat, therefore keeping the planet cool. I think we can grow and thrive as a population without resorting to extracting the fossil fuels in the Arctic. Polar Bears deserve protection as they are beautiful and unique creatures, we should respect and protect all species regardless.

  5. Tom Morrison says:

Where do polar bears live? Answer: The Arctic
Why is it important to protect the arctic and polar bears? Answer: It is important to reduce our carbon footprint because as the Earth heats up and the ice disappears, scientists estimate that two-thirds of polar bears could be wiped out by 2050 and by 2100 they could be extinct.

  6. Laura says:

Polar bears live in the Arctic! It’s so important to save polar bears because every animal on this planet deserves to be protected from human’s awful pillaging of our planet and polar bears have been affected too badly.

  12. Deborah Dartnell says:

Polar bears live within the Arctic – – also within the Arctic circle are a lot of other countries – Canada, Russia, the United States (in Alaska), Greenland and Norway.
Why is it important to protect the Arctic and polar bears? – well they are the top of the food chain in the Arctic and if they are declining it can be a sign that the eco system is failing.

  13. Lin martin says:

Where do polar bears live? The Arctic Regions
Why is it important to protect the arctic and polar bears? It is important to protect the ice regions to stop loss of polar bears and other arctic species. Any damage in areas of earth has a great damage across the balance of the whole of earth.

  14. Alexandra says:

  17. iain says:

Polar bears live in the Artic

  18. Pearl Davison says:

It is important to protect the Arctic because it contains a large percentage of the earth’s water and if global warming melts the ice sea levels will rise flooding every low lying area on earth (including my home!). The ice also acts as a reflector to dissipate infrared radiation back into space. Without it the earth would get hotter. As polar bears are apex preditors if they are gone it means that the whole eco-system is out of balance.

No Arctic. No polar bears. Potentially no life.

  19. Chris Andrews says:

Answer this question on our website feature: Where do Polar Bears Live? . . . . in the Arctic circle

Why is it important to protect the Arctic and polar bears . . . . . . they too have a right to live and hunt, more right than we humans have. lf eradicated and the Arctic suffers, then we humans too will be affected

  20. felicity says:

Polar Bears live in the Artic – we need to protect their environment not only for the bears but the whole world as the water frozen there would flood a huge amount of land around the world if it is allowed to melt with climate change.

  21. Martina Pichova says:

Polar bears live in the Arctic. We need to protect their environment because if the ice melts there may be floods all around the Earth.

    The Arctic Circle

  25. William Critchlow says:

Polar bears live in the Artic

Polar bears help us gain an understanding of what is happening throughout the Arctic, as a polar bear at risk may signal something is wrong elsewhere in the arctic marine ecosystem.

  26. Polar Bears live in the Arctic Regions
The Arctic Regions contain a huge percentage of the Earth’s waters and Global Warming could cause the sea levels to rise and thus flood all low level of countryside the whole world over

  27. Tania Atfield says:

Polar bears live in the Arctic. It is important to protect the Arctic and polar bears because without the ice, they cannot feed themselves and a starving polar bear is a sad sight to see. Also if the ice melts, sea levels will rise and affect countries around the world, let alone all the other animals and birds that rely on the Arctic conditions remaining the same to stay alive. My 11 year old son loves polar bears and is very sad to hear that these beautiful fierce creatures could soon be extinct in maybe 100 years.

  28. Sarah Gardiner says:

Polar bears live in the Arctic. It is important to protect the Arctic and Polar bears because global warming will melt the Arctic ice, polar bears use the ice as a hunting ground, without the ice polar bears will find it difficult to hunt and therefore eat.

  36. Emma McGarry says:

Polar bears live in the Arctic.
Polar Bear numbers are in decline due to a reduction in levels of sea ice. This reduction has been caused by human activity. As human beings, we are stewards of the earth and all its animals. If we make a mess, we should clean it up. If we are bringing about a decline in polar bear numbers, then we need to do something about it.

  68. Louise Comb says:

    Answer: The Arctic
Re why polar bears and the Arctic should be protected, that is a vast question. There are soooo many reasons: practical, ethical, and just for the sheer love of the natural world. We ignore the value and significance of these ecosystems at our peril. And if we don’t do something to halt global warming, and stop the ice caps melting, I truly believe it could devastate our world, potentially to the destruction of the human race along with all, or most life forms on the planet!

  73. Catherine Richardson says:

Polar Bears live in the Arctic and it’s so important to protect both Polar Bears and their home. We need to protect the Arctic against climate change, not least for the species who call it home, but also for those who don’t! Climate change and the melting of the ice-caps is already responsible for rises in sea levels and displacement of humans which is only set to worsen. As humans we have a responsibility to protect the environment and the Earth which we call home and to protect where possible the bio-diversity of the planet.

Why is it important to protect the Arctic and polar bears? Global warming, climate change, polar bears are a vital part of the ecosystem. Ultimately I think that everything about our world is a delicate balance and once things start to break down I almost feel it like a domino run effect where it impacts upon everything else and gathers speed! We lose things that are irreplaceable and do permanent damage, and it effects everyone forever!

  175. kimberley ryan says:

Polar bears live naturally in the Arctic Circle.
Climate change has seen sea levels rise, this has meant a loss of habitat and Arctic sea ice for Polar bears to hunt and raise their young. Polar Bears are now classified as a vulnerable species. it is not only climate chance we have to combat to help save the polar bears, Oil and gas exploration, Human bear conflict and pollution also contribute to their declining numbers.
Their are many organisations working to help polar bear conservation, but unless everyone looks at reducing their carbon footprint, they are fighting a losing battle.
Polar Bears deserve protection as they are truly magnificent creatures, but not only that, they also have an important role in the food chain, without the Polar Bear countless other species of marine life in the Arctic will suffer

  176. Joseph jones says:

Polar bears live in the arctic it’s really important to preserve the bear I have always loved these bears they are gentle but also can be very ferocious if hungry or feels trapped..I have adopted some polar bears as I believe that they need to be protected from hunters and from the environment..global warming has seriously affected the polar bears home..the ice caps are melting and the bears are finding it hard to hunt and to give birth to their young…polar bears hide under the ground for 8 months rearing their young living off 24 stone of weight that they have had to put on for their hibernation.

  177. Meryl Thomas says:

Polar bears live in countries that ring the Arctic Circle, namely Canada, Russia, the US (Alaska), Greenland and Norway.

    • Meryl Thomas says:

Just realised I did not complete the tie-breaker. Counties and humans have an obligation to protect the Arctic region – that goes without saying. It is a fragile eco-system, in which there is biodiversity and home to 2 million people;it is a largely undisturbed environment. Moreover, it is beautiful. Polar bears are an ‘umbrella’ species, and thus important to the region: they are truly magnificent.

    It’s important to look after polar bears because;
    1) Polar bears help us gain an understanding of what is happening throughout the Arctic, as a polar bear at risk may signal something is wrong elsewhere in the arctic marine ecosystem.
    2) Large carnivores – those that are at the apex or top of the food chain – are particularly sensitive indicators of the health of an ecosystem… in this case, the Arctic.

We need to ensure the survival of these creatures – they are more than just advertisements for Coca Cola!
