Chocolate Fish and Chips – whatever next you might say. Gorvett and Stone is the most wonderful and whimsical chocolatier in Henley-Upon-Thames, one of my favourite English towns. G&S ‘s witty Fish and Chips are created by Matt and Elinor, wine aficionados turned chocolatiers, with a fertile imagination! A witty example of the art of the chocolatier, bought to life in Valrhona chocolate, with chunky, white chocolate chips. This batter free confection is served open – hold the salt and vinegar!
Henley has a special place in my heart, because it is very close to where I grew up in Berkshire. As a town, Henley is dominated by a great river, the majestic Thames, gateway to the sleepy, delightful villages of Oxfordshire. The ideal prospect? – A few hours mooching around the very good antique and charity shops in the town, looking for a good book or two, and maybe a capacious antique trunk. (I did find one in a antique emporium) Then, popping into Gorvett and Stone to find a sweet, curiously good treat for a promenade along the Thames, in the hope that we might see a kingfisher darting amid the weeping willows which look like living chandeliers.
