Oh my. Kate Nash’s ethereal, restless lyrics on the new single 3am remind me of Jack Kerouac and his book On the Road. I love Kate’s new voyage into rock ‘n roll. I like the charming anarchy and pure emotion of it all. Recorded in an eclectic mansion in LA, the wild, lovely, stream of consciousness lyricism of 3am conjures images of open top Cadillacs, late nights and girlish, chaotic loss and longing that will instantly transport you. When Kate played The Queen Elizabeth Hall just before Christmas, she described 3AM as a song about a ‘Best Friend’ who turned out to be anything but. It’s the perfect indie pop rock song, complete with twanging guitar riffs. It will make you yearn to put on those red shoes, a hot dress and go dancing all night long. Who knows, you might collide with a prince, or a frog… but whatever happens, the music is the thing. It will make you feel invincible and alive…..
As for Kate playing bass guitar… who knew? More please.
